World Ocean Day is an internationally celebrated day for people everywhere to unite, celebrate and take action for our shared blue planet. The GSC invites guests of all ages to celebrate the wonders of the ocean, our connectedness with the ocean, and how we can all help protect the ocean. This event highlights the reduction of single-use plastics, reducing waste that impacts waterways, and the 30 by 30 Initiative to designate 30% of Earth’s land and ocean area as protected areas by 2030.
This year’s celebration includes designing 30 x 30 postcards, crafting keychains, trivia, coloring pages, temporary tattoos, a bubble station, photo ops with our penguin mascot, special aquarium talks, and much more! Additional activities will also be hosted by our partners: Greensboro Recycling, Stormwater SMART, Greensboro Water Resources, and Reconsidered Goods.
The GSC’s World Oceans Day event is celebrated as part of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums’ Party for the Planet and is sponsored by NC 529 Plan
World Ocean Day activities are free with general admission or GSC membership.
