We are pleased to partner with both Bookmarks and Preservation North Carolina in presenting Winston-Salem’s own Margaret “Peggy” Supplee Smith, the Harold W. Tribble Professor of Art Emerita at Wake Forest University. This author talk at Bookmarks celebrates the publication of Dr. Smith’s most recent book, 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔: 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒏-𝑺𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒎’𝒔 “𝑬𝒓𝒂 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔,” 𝟏𝟗𝟏𝟐-𝟏𝟗𝟒𝟎.
Published by Preservation NC, the book “tells the rich histories of more than 75 great houses through beautiful new photography, historic photographs, personal narratives, and oral histories. Through diligent research of historical records and interviews with residents and local historians, Dr. Smith and noted photographer Jackson Smith uncovered fascinating stories about the families whose fortunes shaped neighborhoods like Buena Vista, West Highlands, and Reynolda Park.” (Credit: PNC. Thankfully, the now demolished Johnson House, next door to the Reynolda House, had been included in this book 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 it was destroyed.)
